This list of books is in no particular order. But, they are all excellent
reading. Some are classics in their own times. So, dig in - they are all at your local library or Barnes and Nobles.
-
Starship Troopers - Robert Heinlein
A far superior book than the movie. I feel the movie is actually a parody of
this excellent expose on politics and xenophobia. I strongly suggest any
Heinlein book there is - he is my favorite author.
-
Ender's Game - Orson Scott Card
Absolutely phenomenal. Period. Being made into a movie as we speak.
-
Illuminatus Trilogy - Robert Shea
Very screwed up book. Definitely the premiere conspiracy theory book.
-
Foundation Series - Issac Asimov
Far future story about the fall and rebirth of an empire. Absolutely original.
-
Dune - Frank Herbert
Read only the first book (there are six total). Otherwise, the story is spolied.
-
The Moon is a Harsh Mistress - Robert Heinlein
Ok, so sue me - two books by the same author. Story of the Moon Revolution.
-
Neuromancer - William Gibson
The book that coined the term 'cyberspace', and also where I originally got
my handle from (Winter is a contraction of 'Wintermute').
-
The Lord of the Rings - J.R.R. Tolkien
Haven't read it? Do so. Haven't heard of it? Pop right out and shoot yourself.
-
A Clockwork Orange - Anthony Burgess
Tackles many difficult subjects - and, the author made up his own sub-language
and slang for the book. Most cool.
-
The Mote in God's Eye - Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle
The absolute best story of first contact between us and another species. Full
of twists and excellent ideas.
-
Interstellar Pig - William Sleator
A 'juvenile' book - but still excellent.
